By Michael Rosemann, March 2008
Managers newly in charge of the setup and delivery of Business Process Management capabilities in an organisation often struggle with the identification of the immediate activities as part of this role. This paper proposes the productisation of Business Process Management as a starting point. A set of fifteen distinct BPM services is described, from which BPM managers can select the potential services on offer by a centralised BPM Group. A portfolio management approach is suggested to position these services. The approach allows identifying specific strategies for each BPM service, such as further training or BPM communication and marketing plans. A simple public sector case study provides further insights into how this approach can be populated.

But company officials acknowledge that they have a fine line to walk in creating the execution engine while not endangering the partnerships they have with some of the world’s largest software makers, including SAP, Oracle, Microsoft and IBM.
