BPTA 301: Architecting and Managing a Process-Centric Organisation

The first two days of this course provides an introduction to the principles, methodologies, and tools required to manage the processes, activities and reporting relationships in a process-centric organisation. The course focuses on the development of a business process architecture and especially on defining value chains, process competencies, and process performance measures and aligning them with the organisation’s strategic goals and available resources.

The second two days we extend the architecture to provide an enterprise-wide performance management and measurement system. We also consider how companies can organise process governance systems and how they can develop performance measurement systems for process managers and owners. Beyond process improvement, this course teaches how to build and maintain a truly process‐centric organisation. It addresses the Enterprise Level of the BPTrends Pyramid where it is the organisation‐in focus.

The course covers the critical issues of strategic context, process architecture, performance measurement, BPM governance, process architectural alignment and operational management.

LQ 01: BPM Notation

The Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) has over the last years become a standard for process modelling. BPMN provides a large variety of options for process modelling, which affords BPMN high expressive power but also high usage complexity.
Improving business processes requires a solid understanding of current and future business processes. Process modelling provides a way for graphically describing and analysing the business processes in an organization and to provide input to process improvement, process automation or software development processes.
