What? Originally developed as a tool for improving database design, data modelling is now a fundamental business and process analysis technique. Why? – because applying data modelling early in a project creates a common understanding of the business entities (e.g., Customer, Order, Service, Benefit, Product, Payment, etc.) that business processes and information systems deal with, their interrelationships, and the rules that govern them.
